Bacteria used in water purification

The choice of the best bacteria to purify effluents depends on the species chosen, their ability to produce the necessary metabolites to treat the residue, the location where it will be applied, temperature conditions, available nutrients, among other important factors.

Unlike the chemical processes of treatment of effluents, the action of bacteria can not be seen with the naked eye, however, they are processes that when applied with knowledge bring impressive results of efficiency, because under proper conditions a simple bacterium can be divided every 20 minutes giving rise to 7 billion new cells per day, which are working for you in reducing COD, BOD and countless other parameters.

Leader in Latin America, Genetics Group produces bacteria to be used in contaminated environment remediation techniques based on the acceleration of the natural process of biodegradation of contaminants.

It can be considered that bioremediation is the optimization of biodegradation, and that this acceleration can be of three main types:

- Bioaumento (direct introduction of specific microrganisms);
- Biostimulation (acceleration of bacteria with vitamins and amino acids);
- Bioremediation (to recover water and/or soil with specific techniques and living organisms such as bacteria, fungi, yeasts, plants, green algae or their enzymes in order to reduce or remove contaminants that are often highly concentrated and of difficult degradation, this process is capable of regenerate the balance of the original ecosystem).

Biological sludge digestion

For accelerated sludge degradation a mixture of saprophytic bacteria is applied, which will perform the sludge degradation cycle in energy and gas.

The Genética Group developed a study of bathymetry and qualitative analysis of the sludge to define the application of biostimulators together with bacteria, since the sludge is already a residue that the bacteria of the environment did not digest, that is, it needs a lot of specificity to obtain excellent results with bioremediation, offering the complete technique to achieve maximum efficiency in sludge degradation.

Treatment period of about 1 year and 4 months;

For the current flow (~ 100,000 m³/month) the monthly volume of sludge generated by the wastewater in the ponds is ~ 315 m³ over a period of 1 year and 4 months it was ~ 5,040 m³;

Total sludge volume - before: 71,477 m³

Total sludge volume - after: 45,927 m³

Benefits:

  • 36 % reduction in sludge volume;
  • Increase in ponds treatment capacity from 28% to 54%;     
  • Sludge dredging postponement: average savings of R$ 838,000.00

Biological digestion of fat / Reduction of COD, BOD and O&G

Inefficient treatment of ponds will result in crust formation and bad smell, and in activated sludge systems formation of dense foams and sludge entrainment in the secondary decanter by the overgrowth of filamentous bacteria.

The Genética Group offers a biological alternative to solve this problem with microorganisms that produce biosurfactants for the solubilization of mineral and vegetable oils and greases, facilitating their degradation.

Understand the action:
The specific and exclusive bacteria from Genética Group are applied to the environment and in 20 minutes, the production of biosurfactants starts, reducing the surface tension. After reaching the critical micelle concentration the  micelles, which are responsible for increasing the solubilization of hydrophobic compounds (the fat), are formed, reducing the COD and BOD making easier the action of enzymes, particularly lipases in the hydrolysis (degradation) of fat, which becomes the substrate for the microrganisms, causing the end of the digestion, gases and water.

Biological odor elimination

Nitrogen and phosphorus microbiological conversion

Nitrogen and phosphorus are parameters of the legislation that are in fact beginning to be required by environmental agencies being key issue for environmental licenses.

For this reason, we carried out the application of bacteria that act effectively. These, promote high conversion of nitrogen and high utilization of phosphorus in its metabolism.

For these bacteria to work fully, certain minimum standards should be followed in the ETP and thus the results are highly satisfactory.

Pigments and phenols biodegradation

One of the biggest challenges for companies using strong dyes is to degrade effectively these and other compounds.

Controlling algae

Due to the importance of the phenomenon of algae appearing in ponds and tanks, which can cause serious problems to the receiving body and the fauna, The Genética Group offers fast and conclusive microscopic analyzes to take actions in the control of these undesirable microorganisms.

With the award in hand, we offer the correct biological product according to the type of alga identified.

Algae: are present at the discharge of the effluents using polishing ponds (in excess can cause eutrophication of the receiving body) and in water storage ponds to supply (cause odor and taste in water).

Cyanobacteria: some may be very dangerous since they have the capacity to synthesize bioactive compounds called cianotoxins that promote toxigenic effect to the aquatic biota system.
